COMMENTARY
Some Everton fans were left dismayed over the Toffees reportedly being ready to battle Leicester City for RB Leipzig attacker Jean-Kevin Augustin. The Telegraph reported that Marco Silva’s side and the Foxes had already made informal inquires about signing the 21-year-old forward with him expected to cost in the region of £17.5million if he departed Leipzig in the summer. While no formal offer was reported as being tabled, it didn’t stop a section of Toffees fans given the pursuit of Augustin a thumbs down. One fan claimed Dominic Calvert-Lewin was better, while another claimed it was clear the attacker wasn’t good enough based on his goal record. The French forward scored eight goals in 29 outings in his 2018/19 campaign, and given that Silva needs a clinical striker to arrive, it’s understandable while those numbers make it seems like Augustin isn’t the right player to sign. However one Toffees fan while clearly disappointed at the idea of the Leipzig attacker being the one their club wanted seemed open to being proven wrong, and who knows maybe Augustin could be the real deal if given a chance.

8 goals in 29 games as a striker just isn’t good enough. We need a big name.
