Arsenal have held talks with versatile Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, according to AS.

Llorente played just six times in La Liga for Zinedine Zidane last term and is expected to be granted a move away from the club in the summer. Real Madrid are more likely to sell the 24-year-old if the deal includes a buy-back option.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Roma are the four clubs that have expressed an interest in the Spaniard, who can play both centre midfield and centre back.

Aaron Ramsey will depart North London in the summer for Juventus and Unai Emery will be in the hunt for new midfield recruits.

Good move for Arsenal?

Llorente is a talent who has all the attributes to do well in the Premier League. His passing ability, balance and flair will compliment Arsenal’s style of play. Aaron Ramsey will be a big miss for the Gunners and that leaves the club one midfielder short, Llorente will not break the bank and is a viable option. The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Alaves and could be a good addition if given vital game-time.

Is it likely?

Given that Arsenal must replace Ramsey and must improve overall next term, signing Llorente would be a good start. His versatility is a big bonus for any side and Arsenal could really benefit from this. With such little game-time for Madrid last season, it’s highly likely that Llorente will be granted a move and it’s down to whether Unai Emery can fend off stiff competition and guarantee the midfielder the game time he needs.
