OPINION

Neil Lennon has suggested that Kieran Tierney could feature in Celtic’s clash against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, and understandably, many fans on Twitter have completely disagreed with that notion. Lennon does not need to risk the long-term fitness and health of players like Tierney in what is basically a nothing game, in terms of the league. Yes, it’s Celtic versus Rangers for the last time this season, but Lennon has other players at his disposal, like Jonny Hayes, who can step in and replace Tierney, who is facing a double hernia operation. As quoted by Celtic’s official Twitter account, Lennon says that it “might be a big ask” for the Scotland international to play this weekend, before adding that “a 70% KT is better than most at 100%”. It does seem like Lennon is giving serious thought to play Tierney but he simply shouldn’t bother. Let him rest up so that he does not miss the Scottish Cup and even if he does have to miss the Hampden Park showdown against Hearts, he shouldn’t feature. There’s more at stake here and that needs to be considered.
