Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos had a first-half to forget against Brighton on Sunday despite his side going into the break with a 1-0 lead. The 30-year-old centre-back looked sloppy in possession despite hardly being tested by the Seagulls. However while that is usually enough to get many Arsenal fans ripping him apart on social media, that’s not what caused them to be frustrated with him on Sunday. Loads of Gunners fans tore into Sokratis as he was awarded a yellow card for simulation. The 30-year-old clearly hit the ground without being touched and it was embarrassing to witness. Aside from being completely unnecessary, it also means that Sokatris has to play the rest of the game walking on egg shells in order not to pick up a second yellow and get his marching orders. Given that the 30-year-old’s terrible disciplinary record precedes him, it won’t be a shock if he gets red. The only good thing to come out of Sokratis dive is the fact that many Arsenal fans condemned their own player for trying to cheat the referee.
