Lucas Odunston has confirmed on Twitter that he has left Leeds United after 12 years with the Yorkshire club.

The 18-year-old defender never made a first team appearance for the Whites but it seems as though he is already attracting attention from elsewhere in the Championship after a trial with Hull City.

Speaking via his personal Twitter account on Monday night, Odunston confirmed that he is leaving Elland Road but is clearly optimistic about what the future holds for him.

“A great 12 years at Leeds has come to an end, excited to see what the future holds,” the youngster said.

OPINION

It is a shame for Odunston that his time at Leeds United has not resulted in him making at least one first team appearance for the club but unfortunately, that’s just the way it goes for the vast majority of youngsters who are trying to make their way up the ranks into men’s football. Odunston has at least caught the eye elsewhere with Hull giving him a trial, so it will be interesting to see whether or not the Humberside club snap up the young defender. A lot of clubs like to feed off the scraps of Leeds United’s academy because there are so many quality young players who come through there. Some of them Leeds were clearly right to let go but others have come back to haunt the West Yorkshire club, like Swansea’s Oli McBurnie, who was released by the Whites and then snapped up by Bradford. Odunston would no doubt love to follow in McBurnie’s footsteps.
