Hull City appear to have handed a trial to young Leeds United defender Lucas Odunston.

It was confirmed via Hull’s official academy Twitter account on Saturday that Odunston, 18, played for the Under-23s in their 2-0 defeat to Birmingham’s Under-23s.

It appears as though the right-back has joined the Humberside club on trial as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Leeds announced in May 2017 that Odunston had been handed a two-year scholarship deal, and it appears as though that will be ending soon and the defender is preparing to leave Elland Road.

OPINION

It does appear as though Odunston’s time as a Leeds player is coming to an end. He signed his two-year scholarship deal alongside Jack Clarke just under 24 months ago and those two players could not have had more different experiences this season. Odunston has been hit by injury which cannot have helped his cause, but it just seems as though he is one of many players who have simply failed to cut it at Elland Road. Hopefully he can have a future at Hull City if they decide to sign him. Hull have quite an under-rated youth set-up. Tom Cairney, Leeds captain Liam Cooper, Jarrod Bowen and Leeds’ January target Daniel James have all risen through the ranks on Humberside and maybe Odunston can have better luck there than he has done in West Yorkshire. It wasn’t a good day for Hull’s Under-23s as they lost to Birmingham’s development side but hopefully Odunston isn’t judged on just that one game.
