Newcastle target, Patrick Erras, could cost the club as little as £5 million, according to The Daily Star

The 24-year-old FC Nuremberg midfielder is being targeted by Rafa Benitez and the Magpies are one of a series of clubs who are interesting in securing his signature.

Newcastle midfielder, Isaac Hayden, is targeting a move away from St. James’ Park and Erras could be the man to replace him.

Erras, who stands at 6ft 5, has made over 100 appearances in German football and has said he would love to move to England.

Good move for Newcastle?

The move would be a shrewd piece of business from the Magpies. Isaac Hayden is looking for a move away from the club and with that in mind, Erras would be expected to step up to the mark and prove to be a reliable replacement. At 6ft 5, his aerial presence would be welcomed and his sheer size would provide defensive cover. Jono Shelvey is another player whose future is in question, which gives more reason for Newcastle to bring in midfield recruits, Benitez simply cannot afford to have his midfield depleted. At £5million, this could be a very cost effective deal.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle will need to bring in midfield recruits this summer. Several Newcastle players’ futures are unclear and additions will need to be made in order to ensure that the Magpies have enough in their arsenal to maintain their Premier League status. Erras ticks all the boxes in terms of value and defensive midfield attributes, it’s a transfer that would make sense. Likely to happen though? When it comes to Newcastle and Mike Ashley, you can never say it will be likely.
