BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has aimed a dig at Celtic fans, claiming that “an element of entitlement” has crept into the Parkhead faithful.

Celtic lost 2-0 to Rangers at Ibrox last week and Lennon has been widely criticised for his team’s performance in the final Old Firm match of the season.

Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, Lennon admitted that the Bhoys “played with the handbrake on” against Steven Gerrard’s side, something which McManus clearly agreed with.

“Agree with everything Neil Lennon said today in his press conference. Was bang on,” said McManus via his personal Twitter account on Thursday.

“Seems to be an element of entitlement creeping in to the support. I didn’t see Celtic winning a league from Primary 3 up until I left high school in 5th year! I certainly remember those days.”

OPINION

Lennon has done a decent job since taking charge of Celtic. Even though they lost to Rangers last week, at the end of the day it is almost a case of ‘job done’ for the Northern Irishman, who wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title weeks ago and is on the verge of winning a third treble in a row if the Bhoys beat Hearts in the upcoming Scottish Cup final. Losing to Rangers is pretty unacceptable in the eyes of most fans and while Lennon does need to take some blame for that, a lot of it has to be put down to the players, who clearly seemed as though they were already on their holidays when they played at Ibrox on Sunday. Lennon should not have to motivate his players for a Celtic match versus Rangers. If players cannot get themselves up for the most hostile derby in the country then should they really be Celtic players? Lennon had no such issue when he was a player and the same goes for him as a manager. That defeat would have hurt him, even though the title is in the bag already.
