PSV attacker Justin Lonwijk is set to “snub a move” to Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to the Mirror.

Dutch news outlet ED has reported that PSV have been in talks with the 19-year-old about a new contract as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

And the Mirror has now claimed via their live transfer blog on Saturday [07:45am] that the Whites could face a setback in their hunt to sign the attacking midfielder.

It is understood that Leeds chiefs, including Marcelo Bielsa, will keep an eye on Lonwijk for any developments in the coming days, but it seems as though he is not going to head to Elland Road in the summer.

OPINION

Lonwijk seems like a promising young player so it is a shame that Leeds are going to be unable to sign him in the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old has never made a senior appearance for PSV but knowing Victor Orta and the amount of scouts that he has dotted around the place, it is fair to assume that the Whites did their homework on the Netherlands Under-19 international. PSV are one of them clubs who can produce some really top young players so Leeds would have no doubt been onto a winner if they had snapped up Lonwijk. He has scored three goals and supplied three assists in 17 league appearances for PSV’s Under-21s this season, so it is not a surprise to see that the Dutch giants want to get him tied down to a new deal rather than letting him leave for a compensation fee to Leeds in the summer. It’s back to the drawing board for Orta and Bielsa, but there is no doubt that the Spanish director of football has plenty of other targets in mind ahead of the transfer window re-opening.
