Virgil van Dijk may be the centre-back who everyone is talking about at the moment, but Joel Matip was Liverpool’s best centre-back in their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night and deservedly, fans on Twitter have been blown away by the 27-year-old for his stunning performance. Matip was an absolute colossus at the back for Liverpool as they went to Catalonia and gave Barca a real game. The Cameroon international has been in brilliant form for the Reds lately and has really impressed alongside van Dijk in the backline, even though it’s the Dutchman who has received most of the praise. Matip has just gotten along with his job quietly, almost under the radar. In the last few weeks he has been the most under-rated player at Anfield and deserves to have all these fans singing his praises on social media. He was top class against Barcelona and hopefully he can continue that in the second-leg at Anfield.
