Derby County sent a tweet out on its official Twitter account name-checking Leeds after they lost out to Aston Villa in the play-off final at Wembley – and Leeds fans have reacted with incredulity.

It read, “Lampard believes that despite defeat at Wembley today, there have been some incredible moments and progress this season that nobody can take away from the club.

“He highlights the win at Leeds and the development of 18-year-old Jayden Bogle as examples.”

Leeds fans can’t believe that beating them has been cited as a highlight of the season and ripped into the tweet – and to Frank Lampard.

Many pointed out that Leeds had actually beaten Derby 3/3 times before the second leg of the play-off semi-final, where they seemed to shoot themselves in the foot after going 1-0 up (2-0 on aggregate).

And just like that another major rivalry has been created. It started with spygate, continued through to the play-offs and is now set to continue in the Championship next season.

Leeds, despite the tweet from Derby, had the upper hand this season but threw away a golden chance to have a shot through Villa for a place in the Premier League.

Snd they were more than happy to let Derby know exactly what they thought.
