Tottenham are in “pole position” to sign Lyon central midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Le10Sport.

The French news outlet claims that Spurs’ motivation to sign the 22-year-old has peaked, but Paris Saint-Germain remain interested in snapping up the France international from their Ligue 1 rivals in the summer transfer window.

Ndombele is now said to face a choice on where he will head in the summer and then for Lyon to agree a fee.

It is understood that it would be “impossible” for Lyon to sell Ndombele for less than £52.6million, and that price-tag could get bigger if competition for his signature increases.

Good move for Tottenham?

Ndombele is just the kind of player that Maurcio Pochettino needs to sign in the summer.

Spurs’ central midfield options have been widely-criticised at times this season and as the club has not signed anyone since January 2018, they are yet to replace Mousa Dembele, who left at the start of this year.

Ndombele has a lot of potential and has similar characteristics to Dembele.

The Lyon midfielder has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and supplying eight assists in the process.

He is just the man that Spurs need in the summer and even if it costs a club record fee, they should be putting a bid in.

Likely to happen?

It seems like it might all depend on Daniel Levy.

Spurs’ chairman is a notouriously shrewd spender and he might not be happy to spend more than £50million on Ndombele.

PSG’s interest in the French midfielder should also be concerning for Spurs, because their financial power could see them blow the North London club out of the water with an irresistible offer.
