It doesn’t get much crueler than losing in the play-offs. For a season that promised so much for so long, Leeds United must have been devastated to see their hopes of a return to the Premier League dashed so late in the day with a complete and utter capitulation at the hands of Derby County in midweek. It was a crushing blow for a side who looked for all the world as if they were going to storm the Championship this year. That early season form, and the subsequent push that saw them go so close to an automatic spot, has largely been attributed to the impact of one man – manager Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine has won over an army of fans in Yorkshire with his unassuming style, friendly persona, and tactical genius. In short, they love him at Elland Road, and the thought of losing him this summer will be enough to give most supporters sleepless nights. But losing him is a distinct possibility. The worry will be that the disappointment of another year in the Championship could be enough to convince him to walk away from the club, despite the fact that the vast majority of fans are desperate for him to stay. That’s why the update of South American journalist Christian Martin should go a decent way to comforting supporters. Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Fox Sports man, after having spoken to some “key people”, he suggested that Leeds fans “should not worry too much”. Let’s just hope he’s right.

Him staying is the only news that I'm looking out for. To do what he has done in just one year is fantastic. We fell at the final hurdle, but he's done more than just the first team. The clubs future is being guided from the ground up and it can only mean good things to come.
