Wes Foderingham should tell Steven Gerrard that he wants to quit Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old lost the number one spot at Ibrox last year when Allan McGregor returned to Glasgow and he has since made just seven appearances in all competitions after starting Sunday’s Old Firm showdown with Celtic.

If McGregor’s disciplinary record wasn’t so poor, then Foderingham would surely have played even less than that.

The former Swindon goalkeeper has confirmed that he is scheduled to hold talk about his future at Ibrox with Gerrard later this month, once Rangers’ season comes to an end.

And in those talks, Foderingham should say that he wants to leave in the next transfer window.

“I see myself as a No 1 goalkeeper. Sitting on the bench isn’t something that I want to do long term,” Foderingham said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“The manager’s aware of that so there will be talks at the end of the season. We’ll see what we can do.”

Foderingham was by no means a bad goalkeeper for Rangers before they signed McGregor. In fact, he was still one of the top three in the Scottish Premiership.

He’s way too good to be sat on the bench every week and as he is now at the peak of his career at the age of 28, he should be looking to go somewhere and play as regularly as possible.

There are bound to be a lot of teams down in England that would be interested in signing Foderingham.

He is without doubt good enough for the English Championship so it would not be a surprise to see a team from that league take an interest in him.

Rangers are blessed to have such a good second-choice goalkeeper but it’s not fair on him to keep him sat on the bench when he really should be out there on the pitch, showing us all why he’s one of the best in Scotland.

He needs to quit Ibrox in the summer.
