Everton are in hot pursuit of Fulham centre-forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that the Cottagers are not interested in selling the 24-year-old, but he wants to stay in the Premier League after being relegated in his first full season with the London club.

It is understood that the Toffees want a new striker in the summer transfer window and are “very interested” in Mitrovic, who is on the Merseyside club’s shortlist.

Good move for Everton?

Mitrovic started the season quite well for Fulham by scoring five goals in his first six Premier League appearances for the Cottagers, however it all started to go downhill from then on.

The Serbia international does not score regularly enough to be a good striker for a team like Everton, who want to be knocking on the door of the top-six next season after a solid end to Marco Silva’s first campaign in charge at Goodison Park.

Mitrovic has also been relegated with Newcastle and Fulham, did very little for Newcastle when they had him in the Championship and just does not stand up and get counted when it matters most.

Everton should be aiming much higher than the £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] striker.

Likely to happen?

Fulham are bound to dig their heels in when it comes to Mitrovic in the summer because he did so well for them in the second-half of last season when they were promoted from the Championship.

Now that the London club is back in the second-tier, they know that the 6ft 2 [transfermarkt] colossus can be a valuable weapon in their bid for an instant return to the top-flight.

However if Everton make an offer for the Serbian, then he might push for an exit due him wanting to play in the Premier League.

Everton might not be the only team to go in for the ex-Newcastle striker either.
