COMMENTARY
After defeat at Aston Villa in the first leg, James Shan knew his side would have to up their game and hurt Aston Villa if they wanted to keep their hops of an immediate Premier League return alive. Unfortunately for the Hawthorns faithful, they knew their side would have to do without Dwight Gayle after his red card and it was Jacob Murphy who was chosen as his replacement. After a lacklustre loan spell from Newcastle, having signed temporarily back in January, this was the game where he could prove to all his doubters he has what it takes to be a success. Did he make the most of the opportunity? Not in the slightest and it ended with him being blasted by those West Brom supporters on Twitter. He was completely anonymous and was a shadow of the man he was tasked with replacing. He was eventually axed after 80 minutes but as many of the Baggies supporters were suggesting, he was lucky to last that long. Could we have seen the last of him in the stripes? You would expect so.
