Turkish side Trabzonspor have announced that they are set to complete a permanent move for Leeds on-loan striker Caleb Ekuban.

The 25-year-old has been on loan there this season and the Turkish club have an option to buy.

It seems like they are definitely taking that up with the latest Twitter post on their official page.

It reads, “Our Board of Directors have decided to exercise our right to buy professional footballer, Caleb Ekuban, who is on loan from Leeds United.”

It also claims that notifications have been made but the move won’t officially go through until the summer window opens.

OPINION

This isn’t a big surprise but it’s the first that we’ve heard from the club. Ekuban’s agent had previously made a pretty definitive statement saying, as quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb, “Trabzonspor will buy him from Leeds, [he] is a footballer ready for big stages. His moment is coming.”  Transfermarkt have the deal listed at £900k with Trabzonspor having already paid a £180k loan fee for the striker. If those figures are correct it would represent really good business for Leeds after they bought him for £500k from Chievo Verona in the summer of 2017. Ekuban has scored eight goals this season in 32 games across all competitions – not stellar figures bu the Turkish side must like what they’re seeing and Leeds fans will wish him the best at his new club after it didn’t work out for him at Elland Road.
