Robert Snodgrass has delivered a message to Aston Villa after their promotion to the Premier League.

Dean Smith’s men saw off Derby County 2-1 at Wembley on Monday afternoon, ensuring a return to the top flight after three years away.

And Snodgrass, who established himself as a firm fan favourite during a loan spell at Villa Park last season, was quick to speak out in congratulations.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the West Ham winger said: “Well done to everyone connected with Aston Villa…”

“Enjoy”.

This will mean a lot to Villa fans. Even though he left last summer to return to West Ham, Snodgrass has been a key part of their journey back to the Premier League, and will be remembered fondly at Villa Park for his efforts last year. The Villans went so close last time around, losing to Fulham at Wembley, but in hindsight, that heartbreak could well have been the difference that helped them see off Derby on Monday. Whereas the Rams looked shaky and nervous early on, Villa had the demeanour of a side who knew what had to be done. By the time County had got a foothold in the game and were able to get on the scoresheet, the damage was done and the Villans were up. That performance was not a one-off, but the culmination of a tough three years spent striving to get back to where this massive club belongs.
