Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has revealed that striker Tammy Abraham was caught disobeying orders over his injury recovery on the training pitch.

The Chelsea loanee, one of the star players for Villa this season, has been out of action in recent weeks with a shoulder injury as the club prepare for their Championship play-off semi finals against West Brom.

With the hitman now back fit and firing for the Villans ahead of the weekend, Smith revealed that Abraham was found to be going against what he had been told on the training pitch.

He told the Birmingham Mail: “He has trained today and he’s got no problems with his shoulder. I even caught him taking a throw in when he should not have been! But he is in good form and pushing for a starting place.”

Opinion

Well there can be no questioning Abraham’s fitness now if he is well enough to take throw ins. Of course he should be listening to the medical staff and the coaching team to ensure his recovery goes as well as possible but as a young footballer, he can be excused for getting a little excited in training. He has enjoyed a seriously impressive season and it could get even better if his goals fire the club to the Premier League once again. His aim for next season will no doubt to be plying his trade among the top flight and Villa will be hoping that he is wearing the claret and blue of their shirts when doing so. It would have been awful for Villa had his slight misdemeanour on the training ground resulted in him missing out and so while Smith can laugh about it now, he would have surely had words about how best to manage his injury situation and avoid any sort of recurrence – which includes the throwing of balls on the training ground.
