Celtic are in the hunt to sign Wolfsburg centre-forward Charles Jesaja-Herrmann, according to Turkish-Football.

The news outlet claims that they have learned from a source close to the 19-year-old striker that Everton and Newcastle United are also interested in signing him in the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood that the “highly-rated” forward is “considering his options” ahead of the summer and he would be willing to leave Wolfsburg and join a club that is willing to offer him first-team opportunities.

Good move for Celtic?

Herrmann has been firing on all cylinders for Wolfsburg’s Under-19s this season by scoring 12 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions.

The Germany Under-19 international also made four appearances for Wolfsburg’s B team in the fourth-tier of senior football, but failed to score any goals.

The 6ft 3 (transfermarkt) colossus seems to have a lot of potential and it is good to see that he only wants to leave the Bundesliga club if he is going to earn first team football elsewhere.

Celtic could be a good place for him to go with Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke expected to leave the club at the end of their loan spells in the coming weeks.

Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths would be left as the only recognised centre-forwards in the first team, so Herrmann could be used as a third-choice option by the Hoops or someone to put pressure on the senior stars and rotate with them.

Likely to happen?

It is not clear why a website that specialises in Turkish football would gain information on Herrmann, who was born to Ghanaian parents in Germany and is only briefly mentioned on the page as being scouted by Galatasaray.

Celtic do need a new striker in the summer though and Herrmann does fit the mould of players that the Bhoys have signed in recent years.

It could happen but at the moment it’s too soon to tell whether this has any legs to it.
