Dean Saunders has claimed that Aston Villa will get promoted because they are the form side going into the play-offs.

Villa ended a run of 10 straight wins with a bizarre draw against Leeds United last weekend, and Saunders is of the opinion that their hot streak could give them the edge when it comes down to the wire.

Speaking on talkSPORT (May 3rd, 9.25am), he said: “I think Villa are going to do it.

“They’ve had 10 on the bounce. They are on form. They have players on form. Grealish is on form, McGinn, Tammy Abraham banging goals in.

“I just think they’ve got the momentum.”

OPINION

Saunders raises a very valid point here. You would struggle to find anybody willing to bet against Villa given their extraordinary run of form at the moment, and if they can continue that on for just a little while longer, they will surely go up. They came so close last year, but were just pipped by a very impressive Fulham side, and they will no doubt feel that, as a side, they are stronger and more resilient for that experience. Dean Smith has got this team purring, and with Grealish and McGinn running things, they look like a class outfit. In terms of individual players, there are few as impressive in the division as Grealish, and having that kind of talent at your disposal, the sort of player who can win a game singlehandedly, will always give a team a massive advantage. It’s a cliche, but the play-offs are a lottery. At the moment, it might just look as if Villa hold the winning ticket.
