There have been no bids offered for Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist, on his personal Twitter account, looked to allay the fears of a fan who was concerned over the future of Phillips, after Marcelo Bielsa was revealed to have extended his stay at Elland Road on Tuesday, by simply responding: “Nobody in yet”.

News broke on Tuesday that Marcelo Bielsa has signed on for another year in charge of the Whites and fans were full of questions regarding the future of their key players.

Phillips has quickly become a hero at his boyhood club and has had a massive influence in the clubs success this season. Bielsa quickly transformed the 23-year-old into a holding midfielder who acts as a pivot in possession of the ball, dictating the way his side moves the ball around the pitch so fluently.

Worries surrounding his future were sparked after it was claimed by the Daily Mail that Norwich were preparing a £12million offer for the Leeds-born ace.

OPINION

With speculation rising by the day surrounding one of Leeds’ biggest assets, the Whites’ fans will breath a huge sigh of relief with the latest news. Phillips is one of the major reasons for the clubs success this season, making 42 appearances and was so influential in his deeper more defensive role which was majorly employed due to Bielsa’s possession based style, winning many plaudits along the way. It is no surprise that interest has improved since Leeds’ failure to earn promotion back to the Premier League after being so close to securing both an automatic promotion spot and a place through the play-offs. Since moving deeper in the midfield, Phillips has fallen into place perfectly and his influence has gone through the roof in this Leeds side. His ability to quickly regain possession after losing it and then to retain the ball with ease no matter which pass he makes has become a trademark of Bielsa’s side. The manager and all involved at the club must make it clear that their star man is not for sale this summer or face the consequence of not having anyone who suits the role as perfect as Phillips attempting to do the same job.
