John Motson heaped praise on Chris Hughton and claimed he felt the manager was made to be in charge of West Bromwich Albion.

The legendary commentator raved about Hughton’s CV following his dismissal at Brighton and claimed that there was a good chance of him getting the Baggies job if he wanted it.

Paul Hawksbee and Andy Jacobs were discussing Hughton’s credentials which led to Hawsbee claiming that the Baggies job looked like it was made for him; which prompted Motson to reveal he felt that was true.

“Well I feel that (WBA job is made for him), West Bromwich Albion, I feel for Chris as it came as a blow to him (losing Brighton job) and that’s a fact,” said Motson on talkSPORT (14:50, Monday May 20th).

“But I think his track-record at Newcastle, Norwich, Brighton, he has a very good CV and also as he said to me tongue-in-cheek when I spoke to him last week, ‘people think I look younger than I am as I’m called a young manager.’

“But he is regarded as one of the younger breed of coaches, so I think he will have a good chance of getting that job if he wants it, he has got two clubs out of the Championship already, so why not make it three?”

OPINION

Hughton does seem like the ideal manager to be the next boss of the Baggies as he has been successful in the Championship previously. West Brom know they need to hire someone capable of guiding the club to promotion, ideally automatic promotion, and who better than someone who has done it twice before? Hughton’s sacking by Brighton was a bit controversial when you consider he kept the club in the Premier League and led them to the semi-final of the FA Cup, but they clearly wanted to go in a new direction. However Motson is definitely not alone in thinking the Baggies could benefit from Brighton’s decision as the manager is apparently on the Championship side’s radar. The Telegraph previously reported that WBA were set to hold talks with the ex-Seagulls boss about their vacant managerial position, and were keen to convince him to make a swift return to management. Here’s hoping they succeed for the sake of West Brom fans.
