OPINION
How can you not love Marcelo Bielsa? Leeds United fan or not, you have to recognise the sheer class of the man and the way he conducts himself in everything he does. As if last Sunday’s decision to give Aston Villa an equaliser after his players scored instead of putting the ball out of play wasn’t enough, Bielsa has now pledged to personally pay the fine that his team picked up in the altercation that followed that incident, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Phil Hay. The Argentine’s argument is that they are his players, and therefore his responsibility, but really, this is another case of him going above and beyond. It is also a fantastic piece of psychology. As soon as Bielsa makes a pledge like this, his players are reminded of just how much he has their back. They are also made to realise that they are well and truly beholden to him and the way he runs his team, and given his character and the respect he demands through the genius of his work, that helps to create a team that would walk over broken glass for him. Morale remains high, the players respect him even more, and fans go wild. What’s not to like?
