Aston Villa youngster Alex Prosser has announced that he is to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who finished the season on loan at non-league club Brackley Town, has scored one goal in 16 Premier League 2 appearances for Villa’s Under-23s side.

Prosser confirmed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that his 12-year stay with the club is coming to an end.

“After 12 years at Aston Villa my time with the club is at an end, I’ve had the pleasure of playing with a number of great players and some great coaches,” Prosser wrote in a statement.

“I’ve enjoyed many ups and downs, but will always look back with fond memories. I thank everyone for their support and look forward with excitement to next season.”

OPINION

There will no doubt be more chances for Prosser in the future but he has decided to call time on his stay at Aston Villa. The chances of him staying at Villa looked slim when his move to Brackley Town was confirmed, although he had played a decent part of the season for Villa’s Under-23s, scoring one goal in his 16 appearances. It will be interesting to see where Prosser goes next, whether that’s a permanent move to Brackley Town or trying his hand at another Football League club. Whatever he decides, Brackley Town was his first taste of senior football and one he will build on going into next season. For Villa, Prosser’s move seriously hampered their Undee-23 side’s efforts of getting promoted this season. The team were four points off leaders Wolves when Prosser’s move was confirmed, but they now sit in fifth, nine points off the leaders. One thing is for certain though; Prosser’s departure will give other players in Villa’s Under-23 setup a chance to make their mark.
