BT Sport pundits Stephen Craigan and Chris Sutton were involved in a war of words over the behaviour shown by Rangers and Celtic in the week after their Old Firm clash.

Both sides have seen the SFA taking action against them, the likes of Ryan Kent banned for his behaviour on the pitch while Scott Brown was cited for his behaviour in a game filled with controversy.

Discussing how the two sides had reacted, pointing the finger at the other, Craigan put Sutton down by insisting his behaviour was like that of a primary school child.

Speaking on BT Sport, the duo’s fiery exchange started with Sutton saying: “All this citation stuff, we are going to end up where fans feel offended when a player scores a goal. I don’t care the Rangers players did a huddle at Parkhead – it’s good, it’s banter, get over it.

Craigan responded by saying: “I’ll tell you the bigger picture, our two top clubs all week since that game have pointed the finger passed on responsibility,” before Sutton interrupted with: “There’s only one club pointing the finger.”

His fellow pundit was having none of it, saying: “There’s the example, there’s the perfect example – it wasn’t us, it was them – I done that at primary school. We’re grown men.”

Opinion

Another day, another argument over Celtic and Rangers. Last week’s clash might be the derby day which has drawn the most attention to itself – for all the wrong reasons, it must be said – in recent years. The fallout is never ending and you can imagine that it will be talked about until the two sides meet again later in the season. There is no one specific to blame – both sides have the right to say what they want – but really they should be focusing on what comes next for them. Celtic have to just keep winning games if they are to win the title while Rangers have to keep winning to delay the Bhoys’ success for as long as possible. It is entertaining for the fans to see Sutton and Craigan laying into each other but really all that needed to be said has already been said. It is time to move on.
