Rangers are on the brink of another summer deal after Birmingham striker Greg Stewart accepted a pre-contract offer, according to Football Insider.

Rangers were reported to be in advanced talks last week and it looks like they’ve been successful with the news that Stewart has agreed a move to Ibrox.

A deal for Stewart comes on the back of pre-contact deals for Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones and Motherwell’s Jake Hastie.

Stewart’s contract with Birmingham expires at the end of this season and he will be available on a free transfer.

OPINION

Gerrard is certainly doing a good job of hoovering up available free agents this summer. They had agreed to take Glen Kamara on a pre-contract deal too, but he ended up signing for a nominal fee in January. That’s worked out well and Gerrard is convinced that he’s got a steal with his signature. Stewart has proved he’s got goals in him after scoring eight goals for Kilmarnock in the first half of this season. Things didn’t go so well at Aberdeen, where he only managed one solitary cup goal, but Gerrard is convinced he can coax better form out of him. If money is tight at Rangers after substantial outlays last summer, Gerrard has done absolute wonders, with Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe both arriving on loan and making a big impact. Defoe has another season at Ibrox but Gerrard should make sure that he makes Davis his fourth summer signing. He’s come into his own in the past few weeks and can help Rangers towards silverware next season.
