Rangers are homing in on a pre-contract deal for Birmingham striker Greg Stewart, according to the Scottish Sun.

Stewart is on a half-season loan at Aberdeen after scoring eight goals for Kilmarnock in the first-half of the season.

He’s out of contract at the end of the season and the 29-year-old is said to be in advanced talks over becoming Steven Gerrard’s third pre-contract signing.

The report claims Gerrard has already agreed deals with Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie.

OPINION

The jury is out on Stewart but Gerrard definitely needs some new attacking options. Eight goals for Kilmarnock showed he can score in the Premiership, but his move to Aberdeen hasn’t worked out quite so well. He’s only managed one goal in 17 games, in the cup game against Stenhousemuir, and has got none for the Dons in the league. However, Gerrard is obviously convinced he can get more out of him and it looks like a deal will be agreed shortly. We’re expecting Gerrard to be busy this summer and part two of his rebuilding project could be the one that gets his side closer to Celtic after a disappointing 18/19. Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe are the players who’ve given the fans hope and they look like being the players Gerrard will build his side around if Alfredo Morelos goes.
