Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has apologised to fans after getting sent off after just 31 minutes of the Old Firm clash on Sunday.

The score was 1-0 to Celtic when Morelos reacted to provocation from Scott Brown, swinging an elbow and flooring the midfielder.

Writing on his personal Twitter account Morelos said, “I would like to offer an apology to all the fans, my teammates and the coaching staff for what happened in yesterday’s match.

“I promise to do everything in my power to ensure that nothing like that happens again.”

Morelos made the apology on Monday afternoon.

OPINION

This was the least he can do. Morelos’ disciplinary record this season has been completely unacceptable and we couldn’t believe what we were seeing when he lashed out after just a third of the game on Sunday. Scott Brown suckered him in, and we’ve got very little respect left for the Celtic midfielder after what he did before and after the incident, but it doesn’t justify what Morelos did. Steven Gerrard made his feelings very clear after the game, saying that he would recommend that Morelos was fined a week’s wages. What Rangers fans really want is for Morelos to act on his words and ensure this doesn’t happen again. His red cards have potentially lost them a shot at silverware this season and he simply has to curb his wilder tendencies. The race for the Premiership is run this season but Rangers will now have to find goals through Jermaine Defoe for at least the next four games. That’s a huge chance for the veteran striker to prove himself at Ibrox.
