After having a successful loan spell in England with League One side Shrewsbury Town Greg Docherty will be hoping he will be considered by Steven Gerrard for Rangers next season.

Since leaving Ibrox on loan at the start of the season, after being told he was not a part of Gerrard’s initial plans, Docherty has shown his ability in England playing his football in League One.

After scoring seven league goals along while also registering eights assists, the 22-year old will be hoping that the Rangers boss considers him for some first team action ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Docherty said: “I feel the whole thing has benefited me massively. I don’t think I could’ve made more of the opportunity.

“I’ve played a lot of games – and some big ones too,” he said. “We played Stoke twice in the FA Cup (and) also took Wolves to a replay.

“They were high-profile games and I feel I contributed and did myself justice in them.”

Arguably, the opposition in which Docherty faced in the FA Cup with Shrewsbury were levels above some of the players that he would be facing for Rangers, and for that exact reason he should be given a shot for the Scottish giants going into the new season.

The midfielder has more than proven he deserves a shot at featuring regularly for the Gers’ first-team next season, and the fact he remarked on the fact he believes he has benefited from his loan, shows how much he has improved this season while away from the club.

Hibernian are also reportedly interested in acquiring the services of the central midfielder according to the Scottish Sun, although the 22-year old should certainly try and secure a place in the Rangers squad, and he seems more than happy to try and do that.

His inevitable fate will effectively be down to Gerrard’s decision, but the former Liverpool man should definitely utilise Docherty’s services going into the new campaign.
