Steven Gerrard has told his squad what they need to do in order to finish higher than second in the Scottish Premier League next season.

Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 on Saturday and Gerrard insisted this season’s finish is not good enough, demanding three things to help his side hit new heights after the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gerrard said: “I’m very happy with the last four performances, but second place is not enough. We need to improve three things: our squad, discipline and injuries.”

The Rangers boss went on to add: “I know the club is moving forward but there’s still a lot of improving to do.”

James Tavernier scored twice in the win and the three points kept fierce Glasgow rivals Celtic from being crowned as champions for at least another week in the Premiership.

OPINION

Celtic have been the superior club in terms of titles for many years. It will take a-lot to move them off their perch especially with their spending power. This season has been the first in many where there have been signs of change, Celtic have struggled more than usual and Rangers have managed to take them closer than many expected. Rangers need improvements in the summer and could have to deal with the loss of striker Alfredo Morelos which could hinder their preparations, but if they manage to add quality to an improving squad then next season will be even closer in regards to their challenge. Celtics struggle could be down to the fact that they have had management struggles with Brendan Rodgers leaving to be replaced by Neil Lennon, once there is more stability at the Hoops, it will be a much bigger challenge for Rangers to push for their first title since 2011.
