Steven Gerrard has confirmed that both James Tavernier and Jermain Defoe are doubts for the Premiership clash against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Gerrard was talking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Sunday afternoon clash.

Better news is that Ryan Kent is back after suspension.

The fitness news was posted on the official Rangers Twitter page in Friday morning.

OPINION

As Gerrard said, Aberdeen always seem to bring their A-game against Rangers and missing these two players would be a big blow. Jermain Defo in particular will be a huge miss, with Alfredo Morelos still suspended after his stupid sending off in the Old Firm clash. One bit of good news is the return of Ryan Kent, who was also suspended after the explosive game against Celtic. He will ensure the Rangers attack isn’t completely toothless. The only contribution from Morelos so far has been an Instagarm post where he “shushed” the Aberdeen fans. He would be much better off doing his talking on the pitch for his club. If Defoe is out it will bring home the damage the Morelos suspension has done to the club. Gerrard also delivered updates on Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy, with both on the comeback trail. The game against Aberdeen will come too soon for Dorrans, but he is ready for the reserves. Murphy could take a bit longer to make his first-team return.
