Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has admitted that he hates playing against James Forrest in training because of the winger’s “scary” form.

The 27-year-old has hit 17 goals in all competitions this season, including a wonder strike in the SFA Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

And teammate Tierney has claimed that his scintillating form makes him a nightmare to come up against, even on the practice pitches.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “James’s form is scary. He has had a brilliant season.

“I am running out of compliments for him because we are complimenting him every week now.

“He is one of the best players I have ever played with. I hate playing against him in training because he’s just so difficult to go up against. He’s a special player.”

OPINION

It’s understandable that Tierney has his trepidations about facing up to Forrest in training. The winger is in ruthlessly scintillating form at the moment, and you get the distinct impression that he will be just as merciless in his beating of colleagues as he would be in his humiliation of opponents. The 27-year-old has a real chance of scooping up this season’s player of the year award, and if he were to snag that accolade, there would be very few who could argue with the decision. His goal against Aberdeen was a perfect illustration of just what he is capable of. Wandering one second, he sparks into life at the drop of a hat, turns a lackadaisical defender with a clever drop of the shoulder, and has curled a brilliant strike into the top bins before anybody can really get anywhere near him. Forrest really does have it all, and you wouldn’t be surprised if the teams south of the border came sniffing in the summer.
