Celtic manager Neil Lennon has quietened rumours linking his side with Paris FC Silas Wamangituka.

The Hoops had been mooted for a £4.5 million move for the Congolese forward, as reported by the Scottish Sun, but Lennon insists that while he did have scouts at Paris’ match on Monday night, they were not there for the nine goal hitman.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said:  “It wasn’t him, but we are looking at players.

“And centre-forward is a position I would look at.”

OPINION

This is a bit disappointing, isn’t it? Wamangituka is a real prospect, and one that will have gotten pulses racing in the green half of Glasgow, but it would appear that Lennon is not interested. That being said, that’s what he would say, even if he was interested in Wamangituka. Managers love nothing more than being coy about transfer targets, and this one will no doubt rumble on until the player leaves Paris, whether that be for Glasgow or somewhere else. It would be a real shock if he did stay in France next year. It feels as if every club worth their salt have been linked with a summer swoop for the Congolese striker, and the Hoops will know that even if Lennon is fibbing and he does want the 19-year-old, he will face a whole host of fierce competition to land him ahead of other, more affluent, sides. However given that Lennon may not be at the club next summer, how else was he expected to respond when asked about a move for Wamangituka.
