Celtic manager Neil Lennon has suggested that Leigh Griffiths could play for the Hoops again before the end of the season.

The Scotland international has been on the sidelines after being granted leave for personal reasons earlier this season, but could be in line to make a comeback in the near future.

As reported by Superscoreboard, Lennon has revealed that the striker was having fitness tests today, and could be involved again before the end of the campaign.

OPINION

This is brilliant news for Celtic, and for Griffiths. The striker has been missed at Parkhead during his absence, and there have been several occasions where the Hoops have clearly been crying out for a little bit of experience and cunning up front. Not many will have expected Griffiths to feature again this season, but he has clearly put in the hard graft, and if Lennon says that he is on the cusp of a return then it must be true. Whether he will be thrown straight back in is a different kettle of fish, of course, and the chances are that he will be used sparingly between now and the end of the season, but coming back from a spell like this, any football is a boost for the hitman. Hopefully, this is the first step in him reestablishing himself as a key feature of the Bhoys’ first team plans.
