West Brom are in hot pursuit of a summer deal for Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe after his impressive season with the high flying south coast side, according to Football League World.

The news website claim that the Baggies have been chasing Lowe, who has netted 14 League One goals and chipped in with a further nine assists, for some time and are going to hunt his capture in the summer, regardless of whether the third tier outfit, who sit in third, find themselves promoted to the Championship.

Lowe’s form this season also earned him a place in the PFA’s League One team of the year, as confirmed on their official Twitter account.

Good move for West Brom?

While they might not care whether Portsmouth are in League One or the Championship as they chase Lowe’s signing, their own promotion fortunes could play a part.

The winger certainly seems good enough to take the step up to the second tier of English football but could he really demonstrate the desired form in the Premier League?

That is a huge gulf in class and simply put, Lowe would have to up his game quite significantly if he wants to earn the right to line up among England’s elite week in, week out.

It certainly seems like the right sort of move for West Brom now, but a lot could change ahead of the summer.

Likely to happen?

Again, this all depends on promotion – for both sides.

If Portsmouth seal a place in the Championship, then Lowe might well want to prove himself with the club who he has starred for this season.

Likewise, if West Brom are a Premier League side, they could set their sights higher than a League One winger.
