Chris Sutton has expressed his bemusement at BBC commentator Conor McNamara’s decision to not include any Wolves players in his alternative team of the year.

McNamara took to Twitter on Friday to name his team made up of players from teams outside of the top six, but failed to mention any Wanderers squad members in his starting XI or on the bench.

And BBC pundit Sutton took exception to the decision on social media.

Retweeting the initial post, he asked: “No Wolves players?”

OPINION

This is testament to just how far Wolves have come in the past season. Most promoted clubs would just be happy to stay up, but here is Sutton, a top tier BBC pundit defending them to the hilt on social media over their right to have players in the team of the year. Admittedly, this is a side made up of players outside of the top six, but still, it is some measure of how much progress Wanderers have made. There is perhaps even an argument that they were robbed in the PFA announcement itself. Certainly, Matt Doherty can feel somewhat aggrieved that he wasn’t given the nod over Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back, and in another season, perhaps one not dominated by two of the finest sides the league has ever seen, the likes of Joao Moutinho, Connor Coady, and Ruben Neves might have been in with a shout for the actual accolade.
