Tony Cascasrino has picked out a quartet of West Ham players that he believes have been “shining lights” this season.

The Hammers picked up an impressive three points against Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, and Cascarino has singled out a handful of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad for praise.

Speaking on talkSPORT (April 28th, 7.40am), he said:  “There’s been some real shining lights this year.

“Fabianski, the goalkeeper, has done brilliant. Obviously, the centre-half, Diop. Certainly Antonio, he can do what he can do.

“Arnautovic has been brilliant at times, gone totally off the boil since January but he played a great part in the goal yesterday.”

OPINION

Cascarino is right to pick out three of these four, but choosing Arnautovic is certainly an interesting choice. The Austrian has been very, very temperamental this season, and there are certainly a fair few West Ham fans who might argue that he has not been, as Cascarino puts it, a shining light. He certainly has the potential to be exactly that, but all things considered, his attitude has been so poor that he doesn’t really deserve any praise. If he can come back next year, sort his head out, and get back to playing how we all know he can, then excellent, but he is so far being that player that it is hard to see how he could. There are, of course, moments when looks brilliant – his pass to Antonio for the West Ham goal yesterday was inspired – but these are flashes of excellence from a player who should really be pulling it out of the bag far more often than he has this season.
