Chris Waddle shared he felt sorry for Tottenham attacker Vincent Janssen during the 1-0 loss to West Ham on Saturday.

The former Spurs player revealed that he felt sympathy towards the Spurs forward as whenever he goes to strike a ball, everyone assumes he is going to miss.

This remark left Waddle’s BBC colleague Conor McNamara noticeably laughing while Waddle just continued to say that everyone just usually went “urgh” upon Janssen getting a chance.

“I feel sorry for Janssen as every time he goes to strike the ball, they all anticipates he is going to miss (McNamara laughs),” said Waddle on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport (14:17, Saturday April 27th).

“Like a chance there, it is always like urgh Janssen.”

OPINION

Poor Janssen. Even when Waddle tries to be sympathetic towards the forward’s near-impossible task, his colleague ends up laughing and undermining his point. The 24-year-old faces an uphill battle trying to convince everyone he deserves to play for Spurs as he has always looked out of his depth when featuring, however everyone assuming he is going to struggle is no doubt making matters worse. Forwards are often in their best form when full of confidence and believing in their ability, but given that everyone does seem to groan when Janssen has the ball, how can he build up any belief in himself? The 24-year-old has been handed some rare minutes to feature for Mauricio Pochettino side as of late, and he hasn’t exactly made the most of them. However Janssen does always seem to give his best despite his difficult situation and that shouldn’t be underestimated, as other players would simply throw in the towel.
