Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is ready to hold talks with the team of boxer Anthony Joshua over hosting his London-based fights at the club’s new stadium when he returns to the UK, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Lilywhites are keen on replacing Wembley as Joshua’s home venue after his fight in New York this summer, with Tottenham chief Daniel Levy said to be looking at adding boxing to the list of premium events held at the ground, with NFL games and a rugby union clash lined up.

It is stated that hosting a big name boxing match would be significant for north London, with it having been 30 years since Chris Eubank fought Michael Watson at White Hart Lane.

Opinion

Tottenham’s new stadium is so much more than just a football ground for Levy and the rest of the Spurs board. It is a money-spinning opportunity which will bring more and more cash into the club and a Joshua fight would be a significant event to add to the bill. If Tottenham were able to call themselves the home of the world heavyweight champion, then it would only add to the value of the new ground, not to mention bring in a whole host of funds for sponsorship, fight nights and the rest. Levy is very much a businessman at heart and this is an opportunity that makes perfect sense for Spurs. After all, the likes of Everton have hosted boxing before to great success but having a big name like Joshua at the new Tottenham stadium would be a real coup. Whether it can be done or not remains to be seen, but Levy will not give up without a fight.
