OPINION
Vincent Janssen has been given a lifeline by Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, but he couldn’t find that elusive goal in the 15-or-so minutes he played this afternoon against West Ham.
And he really should have been the hero. He was found by Juan Foyth towards the end of the game with a brilliant cross with the score at 1-0 to West Ham.
However, he miscued his header slightly and although it was on target, it wasn’t powerful enough and it was cleared off the line brilliantly by West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena.
That was his chance and he blew it – and we’re not sure how many more he’ll get.
It’s a shame as he looked fairly sharp and he was certainly committed to the cause. And there are plenty of Spurs fans who want to see him get more game-time, although that won’t happen in midweek as he’s not in the Champions League squad.
Here are the best reactions to Janssen’s cameo v West Ham:
Such a frustrating game today, it’s a derby, oppositions cup final and a chance for our players to put their name in the mix for Tuesday & not one of them did, except Janssen actually. Made an impact and unlucky not to score. #Thfc #THFC #Spurs #COYS

Also, Janssen should have been our first sub on today, looked sharp last game. Bought on too late by Poch to make a difference, almost did at the end though. Most players just didn't seem up for it in the second half. #THFC #COYS

West Ham win their cup final. Janssen wasn’t awful. Onto Tuesday #THFC #COYS

Thought Janssen had nicked that point. So disappointing. Tuesday could be really ugly. #THFC #COYS

I blame the performance more than the tactics today. Toby at fault for goal, Son, Eriksen, Dele were all poor again and as always the idea of Dier is far better than the reality. Janssen hustled well & unlucky but him and Llorente as our front two late on says everything.

?? Davies is shit
?? Llorente was only good against city but adds nothing to our game
?? Janssen deserves another chance, showed elite mentality by actually
trying.?? Ref was shit.

Don't understand why KWP isn't getting a shot. Janssen clearly more mobile than Llorente too, can't decide who is more (in)effective though. Skipp deserves a chance in a game like that too.

Janssen deserves a chance at least. Let’s not forget what he did at AZ.
