OPINION
Tottenham fans had to endure a really nervy display at the new stadium as their side took on West Ham in the early kick-off and they were far from pleased with what they saw from Eric Dier. With Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko out, Pochettino had to field a makeshift midfield against the Hammers, with Danny Rose filling in alongside Dier. It was only Dier’s fifth appearance in the last 20 games after injury and illness kept him on the sidelines for an extended period. And, judging by the fans today, they wish he’d been sidelined for the match today. Tottenham failed to score in the first 45 minutes and a lot of that was down to a sluggish midfield. It wasn’t just Dier though, although he rarely looked forward, Dele Alli had a really poor game too. The second-half was no better and it was no real surprise when Michail Antonio scored the winner. It was far from the perfect set-up for a Champions League semi-final against the dynamic giant killers Ajax, and a blow in the hunt for a top-four spot.
Here are the best reactions to Dier’s display v West Ham:

Eric Dier isn’t very good anymore. This is where we appreciate Winks and his creativity. Miles apart.

Dier just wants to pass backwards all of the time. Son and Moura need to be playing closer together. Right side of our defence is shaky. Midfield is just a mess. Dembele ?

Sometimes Dier looks like a disaster to happen. Annoyed to see Alli & Eriksen sometimes dropping to central midfield because of injuries to Sissoko & Winks. Blame Levy for selling Dembele in January. #TOTWHU

Eric Dier has been atrocious as usual.

Dier is so frustrating. Everytime he gets the ball he just passes it back, doesn't even look to see if he's in space and can turn and bring it forward. We need a win today! #COYS
