Mauricio Pochettino has opened up on his son’s chances of becoming a senior Tottenham player.

Maurizio Pochettino currently represents Spurs’ U18s as winger, and his dad has spoken out on his prospects of one day playing for the senior side.

Speaking on Soccer AM, Pochettino Sr. said: “It is difficult to talk about my son. He’s playing here at U18.

“We’ll see. It is a pleasure for him. He’s doing what he loves, football too.

“We’ll see if he has some chance to be a professional.”

OPINION

It really speaks volumes as to the level of investment that Pochettino has in Tottenham that his son represents their youth side. It shows that he believes in the club’s setup, and would also suggest he is in it for the long haul. Will Pochettino Jnr. make the first team? Who can say? Even at the age of 17, playing for one of the best youth teams in the country, there are no assurances of a professional career for a youngster, but you would feel that he is at an advantage given that his dad is an international legend and one of the best managers in the world. There can’t be many figures better to learn from than Pochettino, and given his propensity for blooding youth players, who’s to say that we won’t be seeing father and son working together some time in the near future.
