Tottenham’s first leg Champions League quarter final victory over Manchester City was the dictionary definition of bittersweet.

Spurs pulled off one of the great results of their recent history with an unexpected 1-0 win in front of a rampant crowd at their brand new home, but also suffered the terrible blow of losing star man Harry Kane.

The England captain sustained ligament damage to the same ankle that he injured back in January, and the prospects of him featuring again this season are fairly slim.

On the face of it, that could have been the end of any realistic expectations Spurs might have had of getting any further in the competition, but hope was offered from a fairly unlikely source on Saturday.

Lucas Moura, the Brazilian playmaker who has flitted in and out of the side since joining from PSG last January, popped up with a timely hat trick in a 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town, and he could be the man to stun City when Spurs visit the Etihad on Wednesday night.

Admittedly, his heroics did come against the poorest side in the Premier League, and things will be a whole lot cagier against Pep Guardiola’s men, but with Kane out of contention, Spurs need a hero.

Son Heung-min will also come back into the side, you would imagine, but having a little extra firepower certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

He may not be the biggest threat City have to worry about, but the £80,000-a-week South American could be exactly the player Tottenham need to pull off a minor upset after his Saturday masterclass.
