Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy needs to soften the club’s stance of signing older players but only if it truly benefits the team.

Spurs have more often than not steered away from signing players in the latter stages of their careers recent season and at times this has been frustrating as there’s nothing wrong with investing in a little experience.

In fact Tottenham have even been reported to have hesitated when it comes to offering the older members of their squad new contracts due to their age.

It was previously reported by the Daily Mail that one of the reason why Spurs couldn’t get defender Toby Alderweireld to sign a new contract was because he wanted a five-year deal and that was something the club didn’t want to offer considering his age.

Yet with Spurs trying to add trophies to their cabinet sooner rather than later, then in the summer Levy should be looking to add some proven players to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side get over the line.

However he shouldn’t just sign anyone.

If the Spurs chairman is going to rightly throw the playbook out the window then it has to be someone who’d make the team noticeably better and that player certainly wouldn’t be Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida.

Takvim report that Spurs want to sign the 29-year-old centre-back in the summer with Pochettino thought to have demanded that the player arrive ahead of next season.

While Vida has an impressive enough CV and could do a job for Spurs, he wouldn’t help take them forward.

The 29-year-old enforcer had a great showing at the last World Cup but is he better than Spurs’ current options at the back? Surely not.

Vida is strong in the air and reliable enough at the back, but he isn’t the paciest of defenders around nor does he look overly comfortable when asked to play the ball out from the back.

With this mind, while it is positive to hear Spurs checking out a player that would go against their usual type, Vida is not the player Levy should be changing his ways for.
