Ian Wright dubbed Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino a legend after he appeared to quote Toy Story ahead of his side facing Ajax.

Pochettino in his press conference on Monday ahead of Spurs’ Champions League clash with Ajax, seemed to quote Buzz Lightyear by saying “to infinity and beyond.”

“You need to set your dreams to infinity and beyond,” said Pochettino,as quoted by BBC Sport.

“When you achieve things it’s because you dream them. To be in the Champions League semi-final with Tottenham was a dream five years ago – but we’re living the dream.”

BBC presenter Mark Chapman asked Wright what he thought of the Spurs manager’s remarks, acknowledging that he likes Disney films but is a former Arsenal player, and the pundit issued three words in response.

“Legend, legendary stuff,” said Wright on BBC Radio 5 Live (19:08, Monday April 29th).

OPINION

While some may have raised their eyebrows over Pochettino’s remarks being oddly similar to Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, it seemed to go down a treat with Wright. The retired Gunners ignored his likely displeasure at Spurs doing well due to his connection to Arsenal, in order to share his appreciation for Pochettino’s slick Disney movie reference. While it’s odd to think Pochettino was referencing a movie such a Toy Story ahead of one of the biggest games of the season for his side, it helped make his point. The Spurs manager was explaining how he felt it was like a dream for Spurs to be in the Champions League semi-final when you consider where they were five-years ago. The club could only think about reaching this stage of the prestigious European tournament at that point, but now they have a real chance of going further by reaching the final. Ajax will be a tough task for Spurs to overcome, but their squad is more than capable.
