Adrian Durham revealed he was baffled by Aston Villa coach John Terry as he couldn’t work out why he clashed with Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa on the sidelines.

The talkSPORT broadcaster revealed his confusion over Terry’s actions during the match while remarking on Villa’s controversial goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds on Sunday.

Bielsa instructed his players to let Villa score after Leeds put the ball in the back of the net after Dean Smith’s side stopped playing due to an injury, yet Terry still seemed to shush the Leeds manager.

“I don’t think the antics of some of their coaching staff helped as they inflamed the situation,” said Durham on talkSPORT (16:27, Monday April 29th).

“Even John Terry have a little bit of a shush with Bielsa, after the…was that after the walkthrough goal?

“What was he doing?”

OPINION

Terry clashing with Bielsa was odd. The Leeds manager instructed his team to let the Villans score, yet the former Chelsea player still seem to have a bee in his bonnet. While Terry may have been angry by how Leeds scored their goal, wrongly or rightly, once Bielsa made a bold decision to amend this potential mistake, he should have sat down and calmed down. This is especially the case when you consider that Terry is a senior figure at the club and should have been leading by example. By overreacting and kicking off, did he really send the right message to Aston Villa’s squad? No. While Terry was passionate on the pitch when playing for Chelsea, he must know he can’t act the same way now that he is a coach. With retrospective action expected regarding the scenes in the game, it’ll be interesting to see if Terry perhaps get handed a warning for his actions.
