Tottenham are set to receive a bid of around £15million from Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid for right back Kieran Trippier this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim on their website that the La Liga giants are keen on snapping up the right sided flyer as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to let the England international depart north London.

However it is stated that Spurs rate Trippier, who has been a mainstay for the Lilywhites this season, at closer to £40million and that Premier League rivals Manchester United and Everton are both keen on his capture.

Opinion

Trippier’s form might not have been the best after his impressive summer with England but to say he is worth only £15million is something of an insult. He is still one of the best attacking full backs in the Premier League and you can imagine that if Atletico do table such an offer it will be refused immediately by Daniel Levy, who might refuse to negotiate with the Spaniards any further for such a derisory offer. It is risky business of Spurs to let him leave this summer, especially with the ever-inconsistent Serge Aurier their second choice on the right hand side of defence. His exit will mean Mauricio Pochettino is forced to spend some of what transfer budget he does have available on securing a replacement. Is there really anyone better out there for the sort of fee Tottenham can afford? That remains to be seen, but you would be surprised to get much of an upgrade in north London for less than £40million.
