Allardyce: ‘No excuse’ if Tottenham lose

|

Sam Allardyce has said there will be “no excuse” should Tottenham fail to beat Ajax tonight in the Champions League.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show (talkSPORT, Tuesday, 7:15am) he said he believes that Tottenham should not fail this year after years of disappointment in the chase for trophies.

“I don’t think Tottenham should fail this year, I know Ajax beat them but they are no Juventus.”

“I think if Tottenham want to be worth their salt as a top side, they need to win this game.”

Allardyce went on to add: “The players and the manager must see this game through, there is no excuse.”

OPINION

This is a huge opportunity for Tottenham to progress in to the Champions League final. The right to get there could have been against Real Madrid or Juventus who have many more marquee players but all involved at Tottenham would have snatched at the chance to play Ajax at this stage of the competition. Ajax have proved they are more than worthy of being at this stage but so have Tottenham after their superb showing against Manchester City in the quarter-finals and it is time to take that momentum from those games and apply it to these legs. The first leg home advantage will be key for Spurs and if they get a lead, we believe that will make them major favourites going into the away leg. Allardyce claims there are “no excuses” and Tottenham must beat Ajax – the tie will not be straight forward, especially with Spurs’ injury woes but they need to grasp this chance with both hands and leave no stone unturned in their push for the final.
