Alan Shearer heaped praise on Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and shared he thought the Argentinian was doing an incredible job at the club.

The former Newcastle United forward shared that it was unbelievable that Spurs were set to be in the Champions League semi-final and that they were on course to finish in the top-four in the Premier League.

Shearer then proceeded to comment on the potential threat of Ajax ahead of Spurs facing them in the next round of the Champions League.

“It’s been an unbelievable campaign, he (Pochettino) is doing an incredible job at Tottenham Hotspur, gets him into the top-four and semi-final of Champions League,” said Shearer in a clip on Coral’s Twitter account.

“Yes absolutely right they were on their way out against Barcelona, clinging on, now look at them semi-final and deservingly so.

“Against an Ajax team, one or two may have taken lightly this season, but not anymore when you look at their results, beaten Real Madrid, beaten Juventus and drawing home and away with Bayern Munich, so no team will take them easy.”

Shearer was then asked further about Spurs’ upcoming Champions League clash with Ajax and dismissed the idea it was an easy tie for the London club.

“Absolutely, it will be a very very tough game, all you need to do is look at their previous results,” added the pundit.

“And it will tell you how difficult a game this will be for Tottenham, but Tottenham will have great belief.”

OPINION

Pochettino deserves every bit of praise that comes his way and Shearer is spot-on to sing the manager’s praises. When Spurs fell out of the race for the Premier League title, there was this feeling of doom and gloom coming from pundits about the club, however that isn’t the case anymore. There is real belief that Spurs can win the Champions League and if they do that, then it will go down as a remarkable season for the club. This is especially the case when you consider the club’s lack of activity in the last two transfer windows, combined with the fact injury has inflicted star man Harry Kane on a couple of occasions. However Spurs cannot get ahead of themselves. Ajax will be a formidable opponent for them to overcome in order to reach the final, and they need to be at their best to have any chance of defeating them.
